Introduction to the inaugural issue of TAU

There are more than 10,000 Chinese urologists and andrologists, but there are only a handful of English language journals dedicated to the field that are published in China. China has become the world’s second largest economy, and tremendous advances in science and technology have been achieved. In the medical field, a huge investment from the government and private sector has produced a new generation of clinical and basic research scientists full of energy, motivation, creativity, and imagination. Many of their manuscripts are rejected by mainstream medical journals because of differences in social and cultural backgrounds, philosophies, or misunderstandings of the authors’ work. The past decade has seen an explosion of the number of new medical journals resulting from advances in information technology and the Internet. The ease of disseminating and obtaining medical information has provided much useful information for urologists, andrologists, researchers, patients and the public. However, this situation also puts a tremendous demand on clinicians and scientists on their time and resources. A journal that can provide authoritative expert opinions on medical management, safe and highly effective surgical procedures, cutting-edge basic research, and the most relevant data from outcomes research will be welcome by busy clinicians and researchers, as well as the general public. With great pleasure, the editorial board and publisher would like to present Translational Andrology and Urology. The new journal will publish the articles that fit the descriptions above in the fields of andrology and urology. The journal features a distinguished editorial board, which brings together a team of highly experienced and renowned specialists in andrology and urology. The journal will be an international, peerreviewed publication with a focus on cutting-edge findings in this rapidly changing field, while providing practical, upto-date information on diagnosis, prevention, and treatment in andrology and urology. The mission of the new journal is to become a forum for basic researchers and clinicians to share research findings and clinical solutions, to identify new translational enterprises, and to shape future directions for basic research and clinical practice in the field. Many scientists, clinicians, and institutions have contributed to the creation and the success of the translational andrology and urology community. We are very thankful to everyone who supported the idea of creating a new journal. This journal would not have been possible without the great support of the authors, editorial board members, staff, and the publisher. It is our hope that this fine collection of articles will be a valuable resource for medical professionals. We believe that this journal will engage the public and facilitate translation of outstanding basic science and clinical research into excellent patient care in urology and andrology.
